In the 40 years that the Canterbury Railway Society and the Ferrymead Railway have been around we have been given many awards for our restoration and preservation projects and work. As we are dedicated to preserving New Zealand's railway heritage we are very proud of these commendations.

2006 - FREIGHT WAGON RESTORATION AWARD for Tank Wagon E 3705 (A project undertaken by the junior members of the society)

2006 - Inaugural 'WETA WORKSHOP' RESTORATION AWARD FOR CREATIVITY for Carriage B 231. (See carriage history and images in gallery)

2004 - Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand, Paul Dillicar Innovation Award for the Heritage Train Restoration Project.

2003 - Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand Rolling Stock Restoration Award for passenger carriage D 26.

2002 - Rail Heritage Trust Restoration Award Certificate of Merit given to the Riccarton Jaycees for work on the Ferrymead Railway's Crossing keeper's Hut.

2002 - Federation of Rail Organisations of New Zealand Rolling Stock Restoration Award for New Zealand Railways four wheel Guards Van F 79.

1996 - National Federation of Rail Societies Non Steam Locomotive Restoration Award presented to the Ferrymead Railway Electric Traction Subcomittee for electric locomotive Eo 3.

1988 - A & G Price Locomotive Restoration Award for Neilson & Co locomotive F 13.

1986 - National Federation of Rail Societies Restoration Award for carriage A 516.

1984 - A & G Price Locomotive Restoration Award for Price locomotive CB 113.
